This can be harmful to your health, especially if you (or your children) plan to enjoy the many sweet treats available this time of year! Reason #1: They\u2019re Not Judging You<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It could be that you\u2019ve skipped your checkups because you\u2019re worried you\u2019ll be judged for the state of your smile. It\u2019s normal to feel self-conscious about flaws in our teeth, especially if it was our own making. Keep in mind, though, that the dentist is there to help you. Even if your head knows the dentist isn\u2019t there to judge, it can be hard to convince yourself that\u2019s true. You might still feel uneasy regardless. The good news is that most dental checkups and cleanings don\u2019t last long! Even for those who have lengthier procedures on the horizon, you still know that at some point the work will be done. You\u2019ll only be spending a measurable, finite amount of time in the dentist\u2019s chair. You can keep it together long enough to make it through!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reason #3: It Doesn\u2019t Have to Hurt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We often think of dentists as torturers of teeth, or like a necessary evil to contend with that will inevitably end in tenderness or pain. That\u2019s just not the case! Your dentist knows that many people have anxiety and will do what they can to help put you at ease. In many cases, they may even provide sedation options. This can be administered orally in pill form that you take just before you arrive so that by the time you walk into the office, you start to feel the effects. Alternatively, your dentist might offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) that\u2019s administered through a mask placed over your nose while they work. Either way, you\u2019re sure to feel calm and tranquil for the duration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
